The Last Generation Corona Premio Mitsubishi Division of Vehicles
Between the years of 1996 and 2001, Toyota introduced the eleventh and final generation of the Corona called the Corona Premio. The Premio was only available for sale in its native Japanese market. The Corona Premio was spun off to become known only as the Premio. There were a few options of the Premio that were available; they were the standard Base, Premio E and Prmio G brand names. They each came with your choice of a four cylinder engine in a sizes ranging from the 1.6 L, 1.8 L and the 2.0 L, all were gasoline type engines. Toyota later included the 2.0 L diesel power engine that was later replaced by a more cost efficient and economical 2.2 L version. The Premio was the last model that used the Corona nameplate in Japan.
Toyota produced the T220 series Premio that came in a sedan, liftback and wagon. The wagon variety was made for sale in Japan as the Caldina. The other two varieties, the liftback and sedan were primarily sold in the European market under the Avensi name.
The Premio fit into the mid size sedan class. It is a more luxurious sedan as compared to its sister version, the Allion. It was also a more popular vehicle for the younger crowd. The Premio was considered to be an excellent family car as well as being considered as an executive brand vehicle. Toyota intended to offer the Premio for sale to fill the void between the Corolla and the more upscale Camry. And by looking at the over all performance, drivability and sales numbers, it looks like Toyota have accomplished this task.
One of Toyotas main competitors is the Mitsubishi Motor Company. The Mitsubishi conglomerate first started out as a shipping company in 1870. They then entered into the coal mining industry in 1881 and diversified into shipbuilding, banking, insurance, warehousing and trade. As Mitsubishi continued to grow and expand into new industries, they became a major force in the growth and Japanese modernization.
Mitsubishi Corporation, that was founded in 1950, went on to become Japans largest trading company. Mitsubishi Motors, their automobile producing arm of the conglomerate has become the sixth largest Japanese auto maker. The Mitsubishi trading arm of the corporation has over 200 bases for the operations in about 80 countries. Their vehicle arm is one of over 500 different companies that make up large conglomerate. Along with their trading and vehicle production companies, Mitsubishi is also heavily into energy, chemicals, machinery, food and all sorts of general merchandise.
Mitsubishi vehicles are fast becoming some of the best selling and most reliable vehicles manufactured by anyone, anywhere in the entire world. Their commitment to quality, performance, reliability and dependability is becoming known and trusted, not only in Japan, but also to all the other countries around the globe that they export them to.
As stated previously, the Mitsubishi Corporation have become Japans largest trading company, as of 2007. This tremendous size allows for them to export their vehicles to many parts of the world that other car makers were not able to crack. Although the vehicle production division is only one part of the bigger package, they have gone on the reach a total production on 1.3 million cars in 2007.
